Hi and welcome to my brand new blog! I’m so excited that you’re here. I thought it would make most sense for my first blog post to be about who I am and what The Blanket Statement is all about.

First off, my name is Erin Kroeker. I’m a modern quilter, pattern designer and fibre artist from Winnipeg, Manitoba...often known as “Winterpeg”! I work out of my home studio where I live with my husband, two kids, and our golden retriever named Finley.

My love for quilting started when I was a small child, before I was even in school. My mom was part of a weekly quilting group, and she would hand me fabric and a hoop to keep me occupied. I made my first quilt when I was just four years old.

Since then, creating and working with my hands has always been a big part of my life. I’ve tried many different mediums, but I always kept coming back to quilting. I was drawn to how quilts are timeless and made to last. I love that they are passed down and cherished. They’re a beautiful textile embodiment of home, memories, tradition and sentiment. I love that quilts are a creative expression of function, art, history and culture.
In 2017, I decided to take the leap and start selling my quilts as an official business. I wanted to come up with a name that was clever and memorable. My husband and I thought of “Quilt Chamberlain”, but I figured my target audience might not be 90’s basketball fans.
So, “The Blanket Statement” was born instead!

Not long after I started The Blanket Statement on Instagram, I realized that my followers were mostly other quilters, not people wanting to buy quilts. That realization led me to switch up my business model to selling PDF and paper patterns instead of physical quilts. And I’ve never looked back!

Along with a new business direction, I made it my mission to sell patterns that were simple enough for quilters at any skill level. I know firsthand how overwhelming and intimidating quilting can seem. That’s why my designs are modern, unique and eye catching, but also beginner friendly. I want quilting to be as accessible as possible so that everyone can explore and enjoy this wonderful craft.
I also love to explore, hike, camp and spend time in the forest, so nature has always been my endless source of inspiration. There is something so special about the natural shapes and patterns that can be found outdoors. That’s why I design and name my patterns after my favourite Manitoban parks and places.
