The Echo Lake Quilt: 9-Colour Version

The Echo Lake Quilt just released, and I’ve been having so much fun making different versions of it!

My original vision and design for this pattern uses 18 unique fabrics to create a dynamic and colourful design. You can read more about it here!

But you know me, I couldn’t resist making an Echo Lake Quilt just a little bit different! Instead of using 18 fabrics like the original, I opted for nine fabrics and redistributed the colours, repeating them across the blocks.

Spoiler alert… I love it! I've named this bundle Citrus Sunset and it is giving me all the feels!

To make this 9-Colour Echo Lake Quilt, the fabric requirements are a little bit different from the original pattern… so, I wanted to make sure you had all the details to make your own!

Below is a look at the Fabric Requirements or you can download a PDF copy here.

This block-based pattern features six different blocks (A - F). Each block is made up of three fabrics, labeled A1, A2, and A3, then B1, B2, and B3, and so on (you can see the full layout in your Echo Lake Quilt Pattern).

For my Citrus Sunset quilt, I used nine fabrics throughout blocks A - C. Then, instead of introducing nine new fabrics for blocks D - F, I repeated the same nine fabrics but arranged them in different spots within the blocks.

Here are the Kona Cottons I used and how I arranged them in the quilt:

  • A1 - Cantaloupe
  • A2 - Peach
  • A3 - Ice Peach

  • B1 - Mustard
  • B2 - Caramel
  • B3 - Curry

  • C1 - Ivy
  • C2 - Olive
  • C3 - Green Tea

  • D1 - Green Tea
  • D2 - Ivy
  • D3 - Olive

  • E1 - Caramel
  • E2 - Curry
  • E3 - Mustard

  • F1 - Peach
  • F2 - Cantaloupe
  • F3 - Ice Peach

Once you have your fabrics chosen and block assignments, you will be able to follow the pattern as written! Download these handy fabric labels as it will be helpful to label your pieces as you go to stay organized!

For your convenience, I have put together a layout reference for the five different sizes (I made the Baby size):

I am lucky enough to still have some of the original Starry fabric by Alexia Abegg for Ruby Star Society in my stash and Black Gold Metallic was perfect for the backing.  I finished the quilt with Essex Linen in Licorice for the binding.

I often use small quilts to try out new and intricate quilting designs, and Walk by Jacquie Gering is always my go-to for inspiration. When I spotted this Sashiko inspired design, it immediately reminded me of the starburst inside a citrus—full of texture and movement.

It took a little extra time, but it was totally worth it! I used 50wt Aurifil Thread in Muslin for my top thread, and 50wt Aurifil Thread in Black on the back.
