Sometimes you get an itch that you just have to scratch!
That’s exactly what this quilt was for me. I’ve been wanting to make a new Steep Rock Quilt sample for quite some time now, and all of sudden I was just like… NOW!!A deep, saturated rainbow of colours is always a win for me… and this Steep Rock version using curated autumn-inspired tones is no exception. See it go from fabric bolts to full quilt top here!
Here are the Kona Cotton colours I used:
- Dresden Blue
- Cadet
- Windsor
- Navy
- Spruce
- Hunter Green
- Ivy
- Curry
- Caramel
- Cedar
- Marmalade
- Terracotta
- Paprika
- Deep Rose
- Plum
- Raisin
I chose Homespun Essex Linen in Natural as the background fabric and all I can say is… yum! The added texture is chef’s kiss!
I decided to stick with all solids for this quilt and used Kona Cotton in Raisin on the back. I chose Kona Cotton in Paprika for the binding to pull it all together.
I pieced and quilted it with my Janome MC6700p with 50wt Aurifil Thread in Muslin.
For the quilting, I went with really dense 1/2" straight-line quilting for two reasons. One, I wanted to showcase the gorgeous texture of the Essex Linen and I knew tighter quilting would do that. Second, since this quilt is made with all solids (no patterns on the fabric), the quilting lines act sort of like a "patterned" fabric. So, I figured the more lines the merrier!
Is this my favourite quilt to date?! I suppose probably not. But holy moly… it’s definitely ONE of them! See it in all its beauty here.
Since I love this quilt so much, I wanted to share the love. There are fabric bundles for this exact version (throw size) available in the shop! A new addition to the ever-growing TBS fabric bundle selection.
You can also purchase the binding in Kona Cotton Paprika for the finishing touch!
Let’s give bonus points to the Steep Rock Quilt pattern because I made the quilt top in just one day! It’s the perfect pattern for quilters of all skill levels.
