You might be wondering why CancerCare Manitoba is so near and dear to my heart, so here's a bit of a backstory.
I was diagnosed with cervical cancer in October of 2019. It was pretty out of the blue, so to say that I was unprepared for the doctor to say the word “cancer” to me would be an understatement. My whole world felt like it was flipped upside down.
After undergoing multiple tests, imaging and bloodwork, it was determined that major surgery would be the best course of treatment for me. We knew that chemo and radiation were possibilities if the surgery wasn’t able to treat all of the cancer, but we stayed hopeful.
My surgery happened on Christmas Eve 2019, which meant spending Christmas in the hospital. I was released after a few days and began eight weeks of full-on recovery mode at home.
During this time, there was very little I was able to do myself. Luckily, we had many dear family and friends that were able to help us out with so much. Just a few weeks after my recovery, the pandemic shut everything down. I seriously cannot imagine what things would have been like if my surgery had been scheduled just a little later!
In February of 2020, I was given the most FANTASTIC news from my oncologist. The surgery had been fully successful and I wouldn’t need any further treatment down the road!
I still find myself at CancerCare Manitoba every few months for follow up appointments and will continue to do so for a little while longer! They are always so wonderful to me and I'll forever appreciate the part they played in this chapter of my life. This sample sale/fundraiser is just one small way that I could say thank you!
And...as you very well know, I make quilts. A LOT of quilts!
Since quilting is not only my hobby, but also a huge part of my business, I dedicate many hours to quilt making every year. Whether it’s making samples of my quilt patterns, playing with new fabric lines or just trying out new techniques...
I. Have. Way. Too. Many. Quilts. In. My. Studio.
I also have a hard and fast belief about quilts...THEY ARE MEANT TO BE USED AND LOVED!
So, that’s another reason why I held this sale/fundraiser again! To give a bunch of my quilts the loving homes they deserve!
