This Star Lake photoshoot gives a really good glimpse into what winter is like for us here…along with real-life struggles of taking pictures of quilts in knee-high snow!
But with winter comes so many beautiful things as well! Sparkling snow on the ground, hoar frost on the trees, frozen ice to skate on. It’s not all bad!
Which is why I decided to create some winter-inspired mockups for all of my existing patterns!
Below is the winter palette I used while creating the mockups:
I normally like to use Kona Cotton because of their huge colour range, but Art Gallery Fabrics’ Pure Solids had the perfect muted tones for this palette!
I did my best to find the closest matches with the following 25 AGF Pure Solids colours:
- Nocturnal
- Night Sea
- Denim Blue
- Atmospheric
- Periwinkle
- Blueberry Zest
- Hydrangea
- Amethyst
- Field of Lavender
- Lavender Water
- Sugar Plum
- Crystal Pink
- Mauvelous
- Sweet Fig
- Bewitched
- Cotton Candy
- Crystalline
- Icy Mint
- Ocean Fog
- Swimming Pool
- White Linen
- Pacific
- Spruce
- Tranquil Waters
- Ocean Waves
Feel free to customize the colours and fabrics as you wish for your own quilt, but hopefully this list gives you a good start!
Here’s a closer look at all of them:
I also thought it would be fun to take a look at some of my past quilts that have a winter-y feel!
Cross Lake Cover Quilt
I released the Cross Lake Quilt pattern in March 2019 with two different options - one with four colours and one with six colours. I made a six-colour baby quilt for the cover quilt using different shades of blue and grey!
The Kona Cotton colours I used were:
I am so in love with the backing fabric, which is Sweet Dreams from Sleep Tight Animals (in grey). So cute, right?
Riding Mountain Pillow
Riding Mountain was my first pattern to include a pillow size! I made two pillows using Add It Up by Alexia Marcelle Abegg for Ruby Star Society - one of my favourite designers!
For this blue pillow, I used Blue Slate, Navy, Bone and Khaki. The backing is Wandering With Bear from The Open Road Collection by Bonnie Christine.
If you make your own winter quilt using a TBS pattern, don’t forget to use the #blanketstatementpatterns hashtag. I’d love to see what you come up with and you just might get featured on my social media and/or newsletter!
