I had so many ideas for the Star Lake Quilt that I ended up making SIX different versions! I just find this pattern so fun to make! Keep reading to meet the rest of them...
If you haven’t seen my cover version yet, click here!
First up, I made this super cute baby quilt in another combination of peaches, blues and purples - which is quickly becoming a “classic” TBS colourway!
Check out this Home Street quilt with similar colours!
I used the following Kona Cotton colours for the Star Lake in blues and peaches:
I chose Droppar Moondust for the backing from Art Gallery Fabrics and the binding is a striped Gingham Farm fabric by Riley Blake.
After a “false start” and ripping out my original quilting (a totally normal part of creating, by the way!), I ended up quilting this one with a design called “Switch Corner” from Jacquie Gering’s book “Walk” (Canadians, click here).
I ended up using 28wt Aurifil Thread in Muslin... my new favourite thread!
With my recent pattern designs, I’ve very intentionally made sure that they work with both multi-colours (six colours for Star Lake) and two colours. Two colour quilts feel very modern and clean to me, so I had to make a Star Lake Quilt version in the throw size!
The Kona Cotton colours I used are:
I made a Rockwood and a Landmark quilt in the same colourway!
The backing and binding are both Kona Spruce.
I machine quilted it using 50wt Aurifil thread in Natural White, echoing the "X" shape within the star design!
Next up, I made a throw size in these ADORABLE prints!
This one is going to be our summer lovin’ quilt and come with us everywhere!
I used the following fabrics from Ruby Star Society’s collaborative collection called “Food Group” - which all make me VERY happy:
- Hard-Boiled Egg in Banana
- In Season in Multi
- Green Grocer in Peacock
- Painted Gingham in Kiss
- Say Cheese in Sweet Cream
- Watermelon in Succulent
I used Art Gallery Fabric’s Afternoon Sail from the Denim Studio Collection for the backing.
For the binding, I used this cute striped fabric from Dear Stella in Flame.
For this one, I was so tempted to do basic straight-line grid quilting…but! I went out of my box and did these wavy quilting stitches instead! I’ve never done it before and I wasn’t 100% sure about it, but I actually think it’s quite sweet with this one!
I used 50wt Aurifil Thread in Natural White.
And lastly, I made another baby size in Art Gallery Fabrics Pure Solids! I actually had ordered these for a Home Street quilt, but didn’t end up making it! I honestly think it’s for the best because they really shine with this Star Lake!
It’s a slightly out-of-the-box colour palette for me, but really not too far! I love the pretty and soft look of these muted tones.
Here are AGF Pure Solids I used:
The backing is Her & History’s Ida’s Pressed Flowers from Art Gallery Fabrics. I used Blushing for the binding and hand quilted it using 28wt Aurifil Thread in Muslin.
